Expat Workshop: Know Your Housing Rights

Expat Workshop: Know Your Housing Rights

Are you unsure of your rights as a tenant in Prague? You’re not alone!

Renting a flat in Prague shouldn’t mean dealing with unfair contracts, withheld deposits, or housing scams. Unfortunately, for many tenants — especially expats navigating an unfamiliar system — it often does. Join us for a 90-minute workshop led by the Tenants’ Initiative (INN), an organisation advocating for housing justice in Prague. This workshop will introduce you to your rights as a tenant, offer practical advice for handling common rental issues, and guide you on where to seek help when needed.

Why Attend:

Whether you’re new to the city or have rented in Prague for years, this workshop will help you understand your rights and learn how to stand up to injustice. We will explore issues like withheld deposits, unclear contracts, scams, and more — all with real-life examples and collective solutions. The workshop builds on How to Rent in Prague 101, a practical manual created by INN, and expands on it with discussion, strategies and space for your questions.

Key highlights:

  • An introduction to the Tenants’ Initiative (INN) and their newly published manual How to Rent in Prague 101
  • A walk-through of key tenant rights — what your landlord can and cannot do
  • Tips on recovering your deposit (with interest!)
  • Spotting and avoiding rental scams
  • Real-life case examples of what to do when things go wrong
  • Collective action and support among tenants
  • Q&A session – bring your questions

Tenants’ Initiative (INN)

Founded in 2022 in response to growing housing challenges, INN is a member-based organisation giving tenants a voice and the tools to stand up to injustice. It works toward social change for dignified and secure housing, and includes a migrant workgroup to support non-Czech speakers. INN holds regular public meetings and supports members in resolving landlord conflicts through collective action.
